Khaleda Zia tests Covid-19 positive: DGHS report

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has tested positive for novel coronavirus, said a laboratory report of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the report, her sample was tested on Saturday and the result came positive.

Health Ministry spokesperson Maidul Islam confirmed the matter to media.

However, BNP seniors leaders could not confirm about the report when contacted.

Khaleda Zia, 76, has been suffering from arthritis pain, diabetes, eye problems and other old-age problems.

She was sentenced to five years in prison in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on 8 February in 2018. She was later punished in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case. There are 34 more cases filed against her.

The former prime minister was temporarily released by the government on an executive order on March 25 last year amid the coronavirus pandemic following a family plea.

The jail term suspension period ended on 24 September the same year. Later, it was extended again till 24 March this year.

Later on 16 march this, the government extended suspension of her prison sentences for six more months. Her bail period has been extended with the previous conditions remaining unchanged. During the time, Khaleda Zia will not be allowed to leave the country.
