Holders Bashundhara Kings eased into the semi-finals of the Federation Cup when they beat Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 2-0 in the third quarter-final of the tournament at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday.

Argentine forward Oscar Becerra and Brazilian forward Robson Da Silva scored one goal each in either half of the match for the winners.

Becerra gave Kings an early lead in the 10th minute by tapping the ball home from a goalmouth melee after a cross from the left from Brazilian midfielder Jonathan Da Silva.

Robson doubled the margin by scoring from a free-kick from the top of the box in the 89th minute.

Jamal keeper Mamun Khan fouled an onrushing Oscar and the referee Bitu Raj Barua awarded the free-kick to Kings.

Earlier in the 35th minute, Jamal defender Mozammel Hossain cleared Kings’ midfielder Fernandes Reis’s shot from goal-line with a back-volley.

Jamal came close to levelling the margin in the 42nd minute but their Gambian defender Pa Omar Jobe missed a one-on-one opportunity by sending the ball over the crosspiece.

In the 53rd minute, Omar Jobe provided a cross from left side but Jamal’s Uzbekistani midfielder Vali Jonov failed to head the ball home.

Jamal keeper Mamun blocked Kings forward Mahbubur Rahman Sufil’s close-range header following midfielder Matin Miah’s cross from left side in the 63rd minute.

Kings’ Spanish coach Oscar Bruzon hailed his solid backline for their success so far in the tournament.

‘We are much more solid than the last season…The most important thing in this tournament is to win the game. We look forward to playing match by match…Step by step we are trying to win the title,’ Bruzon said in the post-match press conference.

On the other hand, Jamal coach Shafiqul Islam Manik rued his team’s missed scoring chances.

‘We played today’s match the same way we played all our previous games…We missed two great chances. Anyway, I have to accept the defeat,’ said Manik.
