HC wants doc. of Haji Selim's corruption case

Dhaka-6 MP Haji Mohammad in corruption case. The High Court has summoned all the documents in the possession of the court which sentenced Selim to 13 years in prison.

Dhaka Special Judge's Court-6 has been asked to send the documents by December 6.

Justice on Wednesday. The virtual High Court bench of Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Haque passed the order.

Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan was in favor of the ACC in the court. Lawyer Saeed Ahmed Raja was in favor of Haji Selim.

Later, lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told NewsBangla that the High Court had summoned Haji Selim and sentenced him to 13 years in prison. All documents have been asked to be sent by December 6.

The ACC has requested the High Court to expedite the hearing of the case.

According to the details of the case, the ACC filed a case against Haji Selim on October 24, 2008 at Lalbagh Police Station on charges of acquiring non-income assets and concealing information.

In 2008, a court sentenced him to 13 years in prison and fined him Tk 20 lakh. Haji Selim later appealed to the High Court against the verdict. The High Court acquitted him in 2011.

The ACC appealed against the acquittal order. On January 12, 2015, the then Chief Justice SK Sinha's appellate bench quashed the High Court's order on the ACC's appeal hearing.

The verdict directed the High Court to re-hear Haji Selim's appeal. The case has not been heard since. Now the ACC has filed an application in the High Court seeking a speedy hearing.
