Four arrested Tinni's mysterious death

Four people have been arrested by police in connection with the mysterious death of Islamic University student Ulfat Ara Tinni.

Police arrested them conducting raids at different places under Shailkupa upazila on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Tinni, daughter of late Yusuf Ali, allegedly committed suicide after being physically abused by her elder sister's ex-husband at Sheikhpara village under Shailkupa upazila in Jhenidah district on Friday night.

Shailkupa Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Mohsin Hossain said a case was filed with Shailkupa Police Station on Friday night mentioning the names of eight persons and unnamed five to six persons for raping and instigating meritorious student Tinni to commit suicide. Slain Tinni's mother Halima Begum filed the case. The prime accused Jamirul Islam has been absconding.

The four arrested persons were sent to court.

Assistant Superintendent of Police of Shailkupa Circle Ariful Islam said relatives of the deceased filed a case with Sailkupa Police Station over the death of Tinni against eight people, including her elder sister's ex-husband.

Following the case, police arrested four people--Labib Hossain, Nazrul Islam, Tanmoy Ahmed and Amirul Islam. Police are also trying to arrest the remaining people named in the case.

Quoting locals, Ariful Islam said that Tinni lived in a rented house along with her mother and elder sister, Munni.

Munni's ex-husband Jamirul along with several cohorts went to the house at around 10 pm and made an altercation with them on Thursday (October 1). At one stage, Jamirul vandalised the valuables of the house and entered the bedroom of Tinni and harassed her there.

Tinni, after being harassed by Jamirul, took her own life by hanging herself with the ceiling, the family said.

Tinni's cousin Mokhlesur Rahman said that elder sister Munni divorced Jamirul few years ago. Since then, he disturbed them and wanted got married her again.

Tinni had chosen the path of suicide after being molested by Jamirul, he claimed.

Tinni graduated from the Department of Accounting and Information Systems of the university.
