Stocks edge down as trading opens

Equity benchmark indices of the bourses opened with a downward trend during the early hours of the first session of the week on Sunday as risk-averse investors opted for quick-profit on sector-wise issues.

However, turnover, an important indicator of the market, made significant advancement in the corresponding period.

DSEX, the key index of DSE declined 6.64 points – or 0.13 % - to reach at 5,098 during the period.

Moreover, the Shariah-based DSES index lost 4.21 points to settle at 1,158 and the blue-chip index DS30 fell by 5.98 points to stand at 1,755.

Turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) trading floor leaped by 53% to Tk503.63 crore till 11:30 am.

Out of the 352 issues traded during the same time frame, 136 company's share prices advanced, 178 declined, and 38 remained unchanged.

Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited was the most traded stock till filing of this report with shares worth Tk217 million changing hands, closely followed by Nitol Insurance Company Limited, SK Trims & Industries Limited Limited, Continental Insurance Limited, Delta Brac Housing Finance Corporation Limited and Rupali Insurance Company Limited.

Meanwhile, the benchmark index CASPI at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) went down by 18.82 points to close at 14,554 till 11:30 am.

Of the total 197 issues traded till then, 81 gained, 88 declined, and 28 issues remained unchanged with Tk154.8 million in turnover.
