The Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday summoned Jadid Automobiles owner Shamimuzzaman Kanchon to face interrogate on allegation of supplying substandard mask and personal protective equipment for doctors involved in COVID-19 treatment.
The commission also asked Directorate General of Health Services and Directorate General of Drug Administration to provide documents related to the purchase of masks and PPE, said its director for public relations Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.
He said that commission director Mir Joynul Abedin Shibli in a notice asked Shamimuzzaman to appear before the commission interrogation cell on September 9.
He said that the commission was probing allegations of acquiring illegal wealth and embezzling huge amount of money by staff members and officials of the DGHS and different hospitals by providing substandard masks and PPE to the COVID-19 physicians.
The commission in separate letters asked the DGHS and DGDA to provide the documents of agreements between the authorities and Jadid Automobile, copies of work order, information about supplied protective equipment, invoices, and payment documents by September 8.
On August 12, the commission interrogated former DG of DGHS Abul Kalam Azad over the mask and PPE scam when he claimed himself to be an ‘honest, decent and talented person,’ adding that he was not involved in any corruption.
