The much talked Teknaf Police Station ex-officer-in-charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das has amassed huge illegal wealth by name and unnamed at home and abroad. There has also huge wealth in the name of his wife Chumki Karon.
What not OC Pradeep has? He has flat, land, ownership of hotels, house in abroad, fish farm, private car, microbus, gold and cash money in banks.
ACC sources said, OC Pradeep owns a flat in Chattogram's Lal Khan Bazar and two hotels in Cox's Bazar. Besides, his wife Chumki has assets worth crores of taka in Boalkhali in Chattogram.
It is also known that he has luxury flats at Agartala, Guwahati of India, and Australia. So, Pradeep has also been accused of money laundering abroad.
Interestingly, OC Pradeep presented the salary allowance, the remuneration received from the peacekeeping mission, and the money received from GPF in his income tax documents.
It is learned that although Pradeep's wife Chumki is a housewife, she has a fish farm worth Tk 13.50 lakh in her name and a six-story building on four decimals of land in Pathar Ghata in Chattogram. The value of the land is worth Tk 86.76 lakh and the value of the building is Tk 1.35 crore.
Besides, he also brought a land worth Tk 1.299 crore was purchased in Panchlaish in 2015-16 fiscal year. In 2017-18, he bought a 740 sq ft flat in Jhilangja mouza in Cox's Bazar costing Tk 12.32 lakh.
In all, the value of Pradeep's immovable assets is Tk 3.59 crore. Besides, there are private cars worth Tk 5 lakh, microbuses worth Tk 17 lakh, and 45 Bhori of gold, and Tk 45.2 thousand has been shown in the bank account.
All these asset information was not shown in his tax files, but ACC's investigation discovered the huge undisclosed wealth.
Around one year ago, ACC started the investigation. However, it was in a standstill.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) restarted the investigation on the illegal wealth of OC Pradeep Kumar Das and his wife.
Deputy Director Mahababul Alam of ACC Chattogram unit-2 said that he will submit the investigation report as soon as possible.
Pradeep Kumar Das was arrested over the killing of former Army Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan in a police firing.
Earlier on August 6, arrest warrants were issued against Pradeep Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, and eight others in a case filed with the police station in connection with the killing of Maj (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.
Instead of arresting the accused and producing them in the court, the police escorted a key accused to the court on Thursday last and claimed that the accused "surrendered" to the court.
