Pabna ‘local goon’ killed in ‘gunfight’

An alleged local goon was killed in a reported gunfight with the police in Battala area of Shibrampur Embankment in Pabna early Wednesday.

The deceased was Tanjib Hossain, 30, from Ramchandrapur area of the town. He was named in five cases, said Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, superintendent of the Pabna police.

Earlier, the police arrested Tanjib in Library Bazaar area on Tuesday night.

A team of police, based on his statement, headed for Banglabazar area to recover arms at around 2:30am. When they reached Shibrampur Embankment Battala area, Tanjib’s cohorts open fire on the police team that forced the law enforcers retaliate.

At one stage Tanjib sustained bullet injuries while his associates fled the scene, said the police official adding that the victim was admitted to Pabna General Hospital where the on duty doctors declared him dead.

The police also recovered a pistol, a revolver, two cartridges, five bullet shells from the spot.
