Five bodies have been recovered from a ship named MV Al-Bakhera in the Meghna River at Majhir Bazar area of Harina Ferry Ghat in Chandpur. It is feared that the death toll may rise. The ship was reportedly anchored.
Chandpur Naval Police Superintendent Syed Mushfiqur Rahman said the bodies were found around 3:15 pm on Monday (December 23).
The ship was heading towards Sirajganj carrying fertilizer from Chattogram. Initially, the incident is suspected to be a robbery. The Coast Guard and police are conducting rescue operations at the scene after receiving information.
Chandpur Coast Guard Commander Lieutenant Fazlul Haque said that five bodies have been recovered from the cargo ship MV Al-Bakhera in the Ishanbala area of Meghna in Haimchar upazila. They were killed with indigenous weapons. Three more people were rescued in a critical state.
