Around half a hundred female students were seriously injured after the official administration of cervical cancer vaccination at Gyanada Girls Secondary School in Borhanuddin, Bhola. The school teachers rescued them and admitted them to Borhanuddin Upazila Health Complex.
The incident took place at Gyanada Girls Secondary School around 11 am on Tuesday (October 29). Bhola Deputy Commissioner (DC) after the incident. Azad Jahan and Civil Surgeon Dr. Monirul Islam came to Borhanuddin Upazila Health Complex to see the injured girls.
It is known that around 162 girls of that school were given free HPV vaccination on Tuesday morning to prevent cervical cancer. 2/3 of the students became ill within minutes of applying the vaccine to the female students. Then teachers and family members rescued them and took them to Borhanuddin Upazila Health Complex. One after another, the students fell ill after this incident.
Some of the injured students have burning hands and feet, some are vomiting, some are having headache, some are dizzy. The injured students are students of 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th classCivil surgeon Dr. Monirul Islam said that it is a psychological disease, if one person is afraid, seeing others also become afraid, then there is nothing to be afraid of. Bhola Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Azad Jahan said, I left immediately after receiving the news.
He said that 162 students were given HPV vaccination at Gyanada Secondary School from 8 am. Meanwhile, at around 11:30 a.m., a student suddenly turned her head and fell on the ground. Then one student after another fell ill. 62 students have been admitted in Borhanuddin Upazila Health Complex till 2 pm. Some of them have been taken to Bhola Sadar Hospital.
It is a psychological illness of the month. There is no reason to fear. Many students have already recovered and returned home. Vaccination program has been stopped in that school for the time being after the incident. We have formed a committee of 5 members and they will report within 3 days.
Notably, 1 lakh 21 thousand 580 girls will be given free HPV vaccination for the first time in Bhola. The World Health Organization is supporting this program. Cervical cancer is 2nd highest after breast cancer in women in Bangladesh.
Under the initiative of the Bangladesh government, from October 24 to November 16, free HPV vaccination will be provided to 1 lakh 21 thousand 580 girls studying in 5th to 9th grade and 10 to 14 years of age outside educational institutions.
Among them, there are 1 lakh 16 thousand 616 students in 524 educational institutions in 7 upazilas of Bhola. 18 working days vaccination program will be conducted. Out of that, the first 10 days will be held at educational institutions and permanent centers and the next eight working days will be held at regular EPI permanent and temporary immunization centers. You have to register on the website to get vaccinated from this campaign. Also, students who fail to register can go to the vaccination center with the birth certificate and get vaccinated immediately.
