Recent floods have severely affected 2,799 government primary schools across 11 southeastern districts of the country. An initial budget of approximately 33 crore is required for their renovation.

This was announced during a meeting on "Damage Assessment and Actions Required in the Primary Education Sector Due to Recent Floods," held on Tuesday, September 10, at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. A subsequent notification was issued by the ministry.

According to the notification, the renovation funds will be sourced from the Directorate of Primary Education. The distribution of affected schools is as follows: 763 in Noakhali, 501 in Lakshmipur, 550 in Feni, 22 in Brahmanbaria, 523 in Cumilla, 169 in Chandpur, 164 in Chattogram, 77 in Moulvibazar, 8 in Sylhet, and 22 in Habiganj. Additionally, 946 learning centers across 18 upazilas in Noakhali, Cumilla, Feni, and Lakshmipur districts have also suffered damage.

The meeting also highlighted damage to 115,823 textbooks across 1,321 schools in Feni, Chattogram, Cumilla, and Moulvibazar. Of these, 28,736 textbooks have been recovered, with efforts ongoing for the rest.

97,553 textbooks from 582 schools in Feni Sadar, Dagonbhuya, Sonagazi, Chhagalnaiya, Parshuram, and Fulgazi, with 24,276 textbooks replaced from surplus stock.

2,300 textbooks were damaged in 80 schools in Mirsharai Upazila of Chattogram, with replacements sourced from existing stock.

13,810 textbooks were damaged in 559 schools in Chauddagram Upazila of Cumilla, with replacement in progress.

2,160 textbooks were damaged in 100 schools in Rajnagar Upazila of Moulvibazar, which have been replaced.

Additionally, by September 15, schools are required to submit lists of affected students' clothing and bags. They must also initiate urgent actions, including collecting bleaching powder for cleaning purposes.
