Due to the efficiency of Saif Powertech Limited, the role of Chittagong Port in the economy is recognized worldwide, and the common people of the country are enjoying the benefits due to the reduction in the cost of import and export. The price of the product has also decreased.MPB (Multi Purpose Berth) is currently known as the 'lifeblood' of the port at Saif Power tech Ltd due to its efficient operation of CCT (Chittagong Container Terminal).A port where the average stay of vessels prior to 2007 was 10 to 12 days; After Saif Powertech took over as terminal operator, the average vessel position dropped from two to two and a half days. In continuation of that, Saif Power tech has handled 13 thousand 730 ships from 2007 to April 2024.Among them, 8 thousand 251 have been handled in NCT alone. From 2007 to July 2024 container handling (discharging and loading only) has been done - 2 crore 10 thousand 296 TEUS. Out of which 1 crore 14 lakh 43 thousand 739 TEUS handled containers in NCT.

According to the source of Chittagong Port, the speedy handling of containers from ships at a competitive cost as compared to the ports of the neighboring countries and with it to develop into one of the most modern ports in the region and the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA )MPB (Multi Purpose Berth) of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA ) currently procures 4 Rail Mounted Key Gantry Cranes (QGC) of Mitsubishi brand at CCT (Chittagong Container Terminal) with an aim to increase the productivity by 2-3 times the handling of ship's own cranes.

Supplier of 4 Rail Mounted Key Gantry Crane (QGC) M/s Sumitmo Corporation, Japan Local Service Supplier SAIF Powertech Ltd. Up to 3 years, they were responsible for their maintenance, repair and maintenance along with supply of spare parts. Chittagong port was launched on commercial basis on January 30, 2006.

At that time the cranes were operated by Chittagong Port Authority (CPA ) own operators. It is said that the average container handling of the 4 key gantry cranes was not more than 10 to 11 per hour due to inexperienced operators of the Chittagong Port Authority. Which is about one third of the minimum handling capacity of cranes.
As a result MPB (Multi Purpose Berth) present CCT (Chittagong Container Terminal) productivity would have been much lower than the desired target. As a result Chittagong Port has a negative impact on the national and international mass media.

Saif Power tech labor union and unskilled operators used to call unnecessary strikes at the port from time to time. Harassment of equipment operators with the connivance of others was a daily occurrence. Due to which the importers could not take delivery of their products on time. As a result, the price of their imported consumer goods would increase in the local market.

Domestic and foreign industrial owners did not receive timely supply of imported raw materials. Prior to 2007, the average ship stay was 10-12 days. Operational costs were doubled as the average position of ships increased. As a result, the foreign owners of the ships had to pay additional fees. And a hostile attitude was created in the outside world. As a result, foreign owners of ships were turning away from Chittagong port.
It is also mentioned that the loading and unloading of each ship had to incur additional costs which were later borne by the ship owner. Besides, at that time the importer had to spend a lot of time and extra money to locate the container after it was unloaded from the ship at Chittagong port, resulting in container congestion at the port.
According to various sources at the port, the average stay of containers at that time was 25-26 days. Allegedly, each container had to spend extra money to move it from the yard to the delivery point apart from the government levy. which was seized by an organized group.

As a result, an additional surcharge of 150 to 200 dollars per container had to be paid. As a result, the trade would suffer severely and the importer would be forced to levy additional charges on his imported goods to cover the financial loss and the price of the goods would increase at an exorbitant rate.Which was beyond the reach of the general public. By doing this, the shipping agents used to express their inability to ship in the CCT.

As the key gantry crane operated by the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) operator did not achieve the expected productivity, an initiative was taken to hire a private operator through an open tender process on the orders of the then Ministry. In this situation, a meeting was held in 2006 by Chittagong Port Authority (CPA ) officials, CBA leaders, business leaders and port users under the chairmanship of the then Hon'ble Minister, Ministry of Shipping, to increase the productivity of key gantry cranes.

When asked about the role of Saif Power Tech in increasing the capacity of the port, Chittagong Port Authority Secretary Omar Farooq told the daily financial  post   that currently a group is making unsolicited comments about Chittagong Port and Saif Power Tech which are not true at all.You are well aware of the media so far Saifpower Tech has performed their every work with reputation. Still many are making such oblique comments to question the Chittagong port which is really not desirable.

When asked to know, managing director of Saif Powertech Limited Tarafdar Ruhul Amin told  daily financial  post that Saif Power tech Limited got the opportunity to do container handling work at the port through competitive tender. Since then, we are working to keep the port operational by fighting against various adversities.Once upon a time our staff were not skilled in operating the terminal. But today's growth in container handling at Chittagong port has been largely led by our employees. Day by day their skills have also increased.

But now Redsea Gateway of Saudi Arabia has got the responsibility of managing Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) of Chittagong Port. The Port of Singapore and DP World are responsible for the construction and operation of the two terminals of Bay Terminal.Abu Dhabi Port is joining the management of the terminal which was under Chittagong Port. In the future, foreign operators may also be appointed to manage Matarbari Port.
In response to the question of how he sees this matter, he told he daily financial  post, "Foreign companies have to work in joint ventures with local companies in all projects of the country."Therefore, in this case too, local companies should be given the opportunity to work in joint ventures with foreign companies. In this, domestic companies will be able to acquire skills by working with foreigners and later on, they will be able to conduct business outside the country. As a result, our domestic companies will fly the red and green flag abroad and the image of the country will be bright. At one time Chittagong Port Authority operator used to handle 10-12 containers per hour by means of gantry crane, while Saif Power Tech handled 25-30 containers per hour by skilled foreign operators of Saif Powertech Limited.
