Abu Sayeed was arrested from Mohammadpur during the quota reform movement. In this regard, the court granted four-day remand of former Social Welfare Minister Dr Dipu Moni and a five-day remand of former Sports Deputy Minister Arif Khan Joy.
On Tuesday (August 27th), the investigating officer, Tofazzal Hossain from Mohammadpur police inspector, filed a 5-day remand in the interest of a proper investigation in the case. Later, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sultan Sohag Uddin's court granted the remand.
The other accused in the case are former Transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun, DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, Additional Commissioner Harun-Or-Rashid and Joint Commissioner Bipab Kumar Sarkar.
According to the case, thousands of students staged a rally in the quota reform movement in government service recently. Amid peaceful processions, indiscriminate firing continued in different areas of the country. Many students were killed and injured. On July 4, the students were holding a peaceful procession in the 5-foot area of Bosila in Mohammadpur. The police also fired indiscriminately. Local grocery shopkeeper Abu Sayeed was shot dead on the head while crossing the road. He died on the spot.
