Rains have been lashing most parts of the country for the past few days as the monsoon is active, which may continue for a few more days. Sylhet and Sunamganj districts may experience short-term flooding due to heavy rainfall. At the same time, there is a possibility of landslides somewhere in the hilly areas.

Manowar Hossain, a meteorologist of the Meteorological Department, said that the forecast already revealed there will be more rain in this monsoon season. It rained well in June. Moderate to heavy rains are likely to continue throughout the country during this month (July).

Meanwhile, the weather forecast till Wednesday evening said that Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and prevailing over North Bay of Bengal. In this situation, most places of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may experience light to moderate rain with gusty wind or rain with thunder. Also, there may be moderate to very heavy rains in some parts of the country.

According to another weather forecast, southwest monsoon prevailing over North Bay of Bengal and adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh. Due to this, deep convective clouds continue to form in the North Bay of Bengal and there is a lot of pressure variation. Gusty winds may occur over North Bay of Bengal, coastal areas of Bangladesh and sea ports.

In this situation Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra sea ports have been asked to show local warning signal number 3. Fishing boats and trawlers operating in North Bay of Bengal have been asked to proceed cautiously close to the coast until further notice.

 The forecast also says that there is a possibility of landslides in the hilly areas of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions as a result of heavy rains. Surma, Kushiara, Old-Surma, Sarigoin rivers are rising rapidly due to continuous rains. This may cause short-term flooding in the lower areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts.
