The government has decided to rename Sugandha beach in Cox’s Bazar to "Bangabandhu Beach".

At the same time, it has been proposed that the vacant area between Sugandha and Kolatoli points of the sea beach will be named "Bir Muktijoddha Beach.”

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs on Monday sent a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar to take necessary steps to change the name of two points of the beach.

According to the letter signed by Md Saheb Uddin, assistant secretary of the ministry, the decision to rename the two beaches was taken at the 13th meeting of the Standing Committee on Liberation War Affairs of the 11th National Parliament following an application by Md Solaiman Miah, chairman of the central council of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sontan Sangsad.

According to the decision of the meeting, a letter has been sent to the Cox’s Bazar DC to take further necessary action.

Following the letter, the deputy commissioner will sit with the concerned committee and send a report to the ministry after verifying the feasibility.

If the report is in favour of the application, two points on the beach will be renamed.
