The monthly inflation in January went up because of price hikes of both food and non-food items throughout Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics recorded the headline inflation at 9.86 per cent in the first month of 2024, according to its monthly update.
This was the sharpest rise since October when the BBS calculated overall inflation at 9.93 per cent.
The growth in inflation slowed down at 9.49 per cent in November and 9.41 per cent December.
BBS’s 12-month average inflation between February 2023 and January 2024 calculated at 9.59 per cent is a decade high.
In 2011-2012, the BBS calculated inflation at 10.21 per cent.
