The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a leave-to-appeal filed by Awami League nominated candidate Shammi Ahmed seeking reinstatement of her candidacy for Barishal-4 constituency in the next general election, scheduled to be held on January 7.

A six-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order.

As a result, Shammi Ahmed will not be able to contest in the 12th parliamentary elections.

The same bench of the Appellate Division also ordered to continue the stay order by the chamber judge on the candidature of Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah as an independent candidate for Barisal-5 constituency.

As a result, Sadiq Abdullah is also unable to contest the election.
