The Public Security Division senior secretary, Md Mustafizur Rahman, on Tuesday said that public transport, private cars, and rickshaws would ply on the roads on the day of Bangladesh’s 12th general election, scheduled to be held on January 7.
Addressing a training program for executive magistrates at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka, the senior secretary said that the movement of motorcycles and steamers would remain suspended.
He said that public transport would be allowed to move on the voting day to ensure voter turnout.
The senior secretary said that the ministry concerned would soon issue instructions in this regard.
Earlier on December 31, the Road Transport and Highways Department issued a notification saying that the movement of taxis, pick-up vans, microbuses and trucks would be banned for 24 hours from midnight past January 6 to midnight past January 7.
Earlier, it was said in the notification that the returning officers’ authorised media personnel would be allowed to move using motorcycles.
