Transcom Group chairman Latifur Rahman is no more

Transcom Group chairman Latifur Rahman has passed away Wednesday at the age of 75.

He was suffering from various health complications for long.

Latifur Rahman breathed his last at his village home in Cumilla at 11am Wednesday, family sources and Prothom Alo News Editor Shafiruzzaman Pintu confirmed it to The Business Standard.

His body will be taken to Dhaka today. His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Esha prayer tonight. Later he will be laid to rest at Banani graveyard.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Shahab Uddin, State Minister for Disaster Management Dr Md Enamur Rahman, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam expressed deep shock at his death.

Latifur Rahman was born in 1945. In 1972, he established Transcom Group, which is the local agent or comprador of numerous international brands like Pizza Hut, KFC, Pepsi and Philips.

Condolences pour in for Latifur Rahman
In the 1980s, Latifur Rahman became the sole importer and distributor of Nestlé products in Bangladesh. In the 1990s, he bought Smith, Kline & French, a US-based pharmaceutical which had merged into Beecham Group, a British company, and renamed it Eskayef.

He was elected a member of the executive board of the Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce for a three-year term in July 2014.

He was awarded as the "Business Executive of the Year" by American Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh in 2001 and received "Business for Peace Award" in 2012 for his recognition of business ethics and social responsibility.
