BNP has been allowed by the police to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on December 10. But the party is adamant on its decision to hold the rally in front of its central office in Nayapaltan.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) wrote to BNP on Tuesday (November 29) allowing them to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital under 26 conditions.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that they want to hold a rally in Nayapaltan. Not in Suhrawardy Udyan. They are adamant about gathering in Nayapaltan.
Publicity Secretary of the party Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anyi said that we will hold a rally in front of the party office in Nayapaltan, this is our party's decision. We did not seek permission for the rally in Suhrawardy Udyan, but for Nayapaltan. Now the letter given by DMP will be discussed in the highest policy making forum of the party and a decision will be taken.
It is to be noted that BNP has been holding mass gatherings in the divisional cities since last October for several demands, including elections under a non-partisan government, release of political prisoners including Khaleda Zia and increase in the prices of daily necessities. In continuation of this, BNP wants to hold a mass meeting in Dhaka on December 10.
