The Chattogram South District unit Awami League council is scheduled to take place on October 31, 2022, and the council of all the organisational unit committees, including union and thana, would have to be held before that.

AL Central Organising Secretary (Chattogram division) Abu Sayed Al Mahmud Swapan confirmed the development while addressing as the chief guest in the extended meeting of Chattogram South district unit of AL at the LGED auditorium in the port city today (September 3, 2022).

The meeting was also addressed by the leaders of south district unit of AL including the lawmakers in different upazilas of southern Chattogram, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.

When Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury, lawmaker from Chattogram-16 (Banshkhali), was addressing, some leaders of Banshkhali upazila unit of AL locked in an altercation with the him over forming committees in different unions of the upazila, according to witnesses.

They said a commotion was created in the meeting at that time. Later the situation calmed down as the central and district leaders intervened into it.

When contacted, Mustafizur declined to make any comment regarding the matter terming it exclusively internal affairs of the party.

Chattogram south district AL general secretary Mofizur Rahman said when lawmaker Mustafizur was addressing, some aggrieved leaders in Banshkhali upazilas protested as he was delivering an "extra-organisational" speech.

"The matter was solved instantly as we intervened in it and the meeting ended peacefully," he said.

AL Chattogram city unit President Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury and General Secretary AJM Nasir Uddin were present in the meeting, among others.
