One more dengue patient died in Dhaka and 80 others were admitted to hospitals across the country over a span of 24 hours till 8:00am on Sunday.
With the latest one, the total number of dengue death rose to 10 in the country while 2,660 people were hospitalised with dengue fever since January this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
The latest death with dengue was recorded in Dhaka raising the total deaths in Dhaka to four while six people, all Rohingyas, died in Cox’s Bazar.
The latest victim died at Green Life Hospital in the capital.
DGHS official data said that a total of 1,571 people were hospitalised in 30 days of July, 737 were hospitalised in June, 163 in May, 23 in April, 20 each in February and March and 126 in January.
In a press release, the DGHS on Sunday said that in the past 24 hours a total of 57 patients were hospitalised at 47 hospitals in Dhaka while 23 at hospitals in different districts.
With the latest figures, a total of 328 patients were undergoing treatment at different hospitals, including 255 at 47 hospitals in Dhaka.
DGHS statistics also showed that the number of dengue hospitalisation was on the rise as 61 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals on July 27, 64 on July 28, 65 on July 29, and 85 on July 30 as well.
The health directorate in a pre-monsoon survey found a higher density of Aedes mosquitoes in Dhaka in April this year compared to the mosquito density in 2021 and predicted a worsening dengue situation unless preventive steps were taken.
