30 cattle markets to be set up in capital

Amid the ongoing wave of the coronavirus pandemic, two city corporations of Dhaka will set up 30 makeshift cattle markets to pave ways for the Muslims to buy sacrificial animals ahead of the Eid Ul Azha.

Authorities of the Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation said strict health guidelines would be maintained in the markets to contain the transmission of the deadly virus.
Of the 30 cattle markets, the DSCC will set up 14 cattle markets, while the DNCC will set up 11 makeshift cattle markets, officials said.

Besides the makeshift cattle markets, the permanent cattle market of DNCC at Gabtoli and four others ---Sarulia Cattle market, Sarulia Kitchen market open space, Demra market and Kayetpara market of DSCC will also remain open.

Officials of the both city corporations say that leasing process of the markets are underway.

The cattle markets under the DSCC are Meradia Bazar Playground, Dhupkhola playground, Kawarteck playground, Amulia Model Town, Aftabnagar Eastern Housing, Maitree Shangho playground, Shyampur Balur Math, Shamsabad playground, Hazaribagh playground at Zigatola, Lalbagh Rahmatganj playground, Chairman’s House intersection at Kamrangirchar, Gopibagh Balur Math and Shanir Akhra-Daniya playground.

The cattle markets under the DNCC are Kawla-Shialdanga, Uttara-17 no. sector Brindaban, Kamarpara Bridge, Mirpur DOHS,  Dhaka Polytechnic Institute, Sahidnagar Housing in Uttarkhan, Badda Eastern Housing (Aftabnagar), Eastern Housing at Mirpur- 6, Khilkhet Banorupa Residential Project, Uttara Sector 15,Bhatara (Sayed Nagar), Mohammadpur Intellectual Road, Dumni Bazar road and Bhasantek.
