City dwellers, especially the working people, are facing great difficulties amid lack of transport as bus operators started plying vehicles with 50 per cent passengers against the capacity from Wednesday.

Earlier, the government instructed all transportation operators not to ply their vehicles with more than half of their capacity of passengers following the rocketing trend of Covid-19 infections for last few weeks.

The government also allowed a 60 per cent increase in bus fare that compounded sufferings of commoners already battered with rising prices of essentials.

The instruction will remain effective for next two weeks, according to government sources.

Bus passengers within the city were seen facing difficulties to get a vehicle to go to their offices and working places.

Many of the passengers were seen bargaining with bus conductors for the 60 per cent hike in fare.

The sufferings further rose from the afternoon during the rush for home-return.

Except few ones, most of the buses were seen running with half passengers.

However, an all-time high 5358 infection with Covid was detected in 24 hours between Tuesday 8:00 am and Wednesday 8:00 am.

Besides, Bangladesh logged 52 deaths from coronavirus during the period, according to the directorate general of health services.
