Noted banker Ibrahim Khaled dies

Former Bangladesh Bank deputy governor and economist Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Wednesday.

Ibrahim Khaled, also the head of the investigation committee on the stock market crash in 2010-2011, was undergoing post-COVID treatment at the BSMMU’s intensive care unit, BSMMU vice-chancellor Kanak Kanti Barua confirmed New Age.

He breathed his last at 5:45 am on the day, he said.

Initially, he was admitted to Bangladesh Specialised Hospital after he was tested COVI-19 positive.

Khaled was shifted to BSMMU after his condition had deteriorated.

‘He suffered a stroke and took primary treatment at some other hospitals and was taken to us at a time when he was in critical condition’ BSMMU public relations officer Proshanto Majumder told New Age.

Ibrahim Khaled has been associated with the banking system of Bangladesh for nearly six decades.

He also served as the managing director of Bangladesh Krishi Bank, Agrani Bank and Sonali Bank.

He was the deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank from 1998 to 2001.
