Senior lawyer and former attorney general Rafique-Ul Huq died at Ad-din Medical College Hospital in Dhaka at 8:30am on Saturday.
He was put on life support on Wednesday.
He had been suffering from urinary tract infection, low haemoglobin, albumin imbalance, blood pressure fluctuation, and low oxygen level.
The senior lawyer, in his 80s, was undergoing treatment at Ad-din Medical College Hospital in the capital’s Moghbazar.
The hospital’s public relation officer Tabibur Rahman said that Rafique-Ul Huq, also the chairman of the Ad-din Foundation, was admitted to the hospital on October 15 with problems in taking foods. He was later shifted to the High Dependency Unit of the hospital after getting a fever.
‘He tested negative for COVID-19, but his other ailments persisted,’ Tabibur said.
Later, early Wednesday, he was shifted to the ICU and put on life support, he said.
Rafique is survived by his son Fahimul Haque who is currently living in Canada.
His wife Farida Haque, a doctor, died on January 7, 2011.
