11 kms of metro rail viaduct visible

The construction work of the 20-kilometer elevated metro rail project is progressing fast as viaducts with a length equal to 11kilometers becomes visible and track ballast has been installed on 2.7 kilometers.

The work of the metro rail is speedily coming out of the slump in progress due to coronavirus.

The construction will be completed on time with no further inflated the project cost, according to officials of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the owning company of metro rails in Bangladesh.

Viaduct stretching more than 11 of 11.73-kilometer between Uttara and Agargaon has become continuously visible. “The construction work of MRT Line-6 in the city under the Fast Track project is going on in full swing”, said DMTCLManaging DirectorMAN Siddique.

Meanwhile, the construction of the second metro train coaches was completed in the first week of September and the construction of the first metro train with six passenger coaches was completed in the first week of April this year in Japan.

Another three metro train coaches are under construction in the Japanese factories.

The metro rail track under MRT6 service starting from Uttara’s Diabari to Motijheel via Agargaon will operate 24 sets of coaches. Two Japanese companies - Mitsubishi and Kawasaki- kept one set of a train ready to deliver.

Kawasaki and Mitsubishi will supply five sets of trains to the country by December this year.The remaining 19 sets will arrive in Bangladesh by December 2021.

According to the project details, rail coaches which have been built in Japan to run on Line-6 track from Diabari of Uttara to Motijheel are awaiting shipment, which is expected to begin after coronavirus situation improves.

The MRT Line-6 will have some 16 stations on its 21-km route and digital devices will be used in all stations.

The metro rail project is being implemented at the cost of Tk 219.85billion. Of the amount, Japan International Cooperation Agency provides Tk 165 billion.
