800 tonne Hilsa exported thru Benapole in a week

On the occasion of Durga Puja, a total of 805.07 metric tonnes of hilsa was exported to India through Benapole port in the last 7 days. The export value of hilsa was 77 lakh 69 thousand and 120 dollars. The size of each hilsa exported at this price was from one kg to 1 kg 200 grams.

Mahbubur Rahman, Assistant Director, Department of Fisheries Benapole Port said, “The Commerce Ministry has allowed 9 exporters to send a total of 1,475 tones of hilsa to India. Hilsa fish worth a total of 1 one lakh 20,000 US dollars will be exported to India at a price of 10 US dollars per kg. This year, a total of 1,475 metric tons of hilsa fish will be exported to India.”

Meanwhile, Jashore Janata Fish 322 metric tons, Dhaka's Ripa Enterprise 175 metric tons, Tiger Trading 210 Metric Tons, Union Venture 175 Metric Tons, Gazi Fresh Sea Foods 270 Metric Tons, Jahanabad Sea Foods in Khulna 150 MT, Pacific Sea Foods in Chittagong150 MT, Pabna's Seven Star Fish Processing Limited 150 metric tones, and Barisal's Mahim 175 metric tonnes have been appointed to export fish from Benapole Port.

According to the source, when the consignment of hilsa reached Benapole port at noon on September 14, the Customs and Fisheries Department completed the formalities and gave permission for export in the afternoon. Hilsa went to India in phases till September 28.

Benapole C&F agent Mahitul Haque said Bangladeshi traders were taking hilsa to Kolkata, this hilsa will be sold in different markets of West Bengal.

 Last year, the government allowed the export of 500 metric tons of hilsa at the rate of Tk 508 per kg as a greeting for the Durgotsab.

The last consignment of hilsa fish from Bangladesh entered to India on 10 October 2012.
