Bangladesh: 32 more Corona deaths

Bangladesh confirmed 32 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till 8am on Tuesday.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 4,383, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, 2,158 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 3,19,686.

"Of the dead patients, 24 were men and eight were women. Moreover, 15 of them hailed from Dhaka, seven from Chattogram, three from Sylhet, six from Rangpur and one from Mymensingh district.

31 of them died in different hospitals while one died at home, says the press release.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19's victims shows that 78.30 percent or 3,432 of the total were men, and 21.70 percent or 951 were women.

While talking about district-wise fatalities, 2,120 hailed from Dhaka division, 950 from Chattogram, 363 from Khulna, 291 from Rajshahi, 200 from Rangpur, 197 from Sylhet, 169 from Barishal, and 93 from Mymensingh district.

According to the age group analysis of Covid-19 victims, as of Thursday, the majority of patients that died – 2,176 or 49.65 percent – were aged sixty and above.

The age groups of 51-60 and 41-50 come next with, respectively, 1,201 and 582 people. The rest of the people are within the age group of 31-40 with 264 people, 21-30 with 105, 11-20 with 36 people and under ten with 19 people.

A total of 2,964 patients were declared free of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours and the total number of recoveries reached 213,980.

Some 14,617 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 14,422 were tested in 93 labs across the country. So far 1,592,038 samples have been tested.

Around 66.93 percent of novel coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.37 percent have died.

The latest day's infection rate was 14.96 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 20.08 percent.

The virus has killed 867,347 people globally and infected 26,177,535 so far.
