Dhaka University authorities have banned students from celebrating 'Radg Day' on campus, calling it inhuman, cruel and unethical.
The celebration of Rag Day is prohibited on the campus of Dhaka University (DU) to commemorate the end of the academic year.The academic council of the university banned the celebration, calling it an inhuman, cruel and unethical festival.
In addition, the students who have a small number of exams left in the department are allowed to take the exam in consultation with them.
The meeting of the Academic Council was held on Wednesday using virtual platform in the virtual classroom of Dhaka University's administrative building Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury. Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the function.
At that meeting, it was decided to ban the inhuman, cruel and unethical Rag Day festival on the campus of Dhaka University. In addition, it is recommended that each faculty of the university form an 'Ethical Review Committee'.
Regarding the banning of Rag Day, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Akhtaruzzaman said that many unfortunate incidents took place while celebrating it. Therefore, all the celebrations that give rise to such unfortunate incidents have been banned.
However, there will be no restrictions on organizing the farewell ceremony or the reception in an elegant manner.
