Six killed, 2 hurt in Cox’s Bazar road crash

A head-on collision between a human hauler (locally known as leguna) and a covered van on the Cox's Bazar-Chattogram highway has killed six people and has injured two more.

The accident took place at the north Harbang Burir Dokan point on the highway at Chakaria upazila around 5:30pm on Wednesday. Both the vehicles fell into a road side ditch, after the collision.

The bystanders said that all of the injured and deceased were the passengers of the human hauler.

The dead bodies and the injured were taken to the upazila health complex.

The deceased were identified as Badiul Alam (50) of Notun Bazar area of Harbang union in Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar, Al Amin (48) of Sandwip Para in Lama upazila of Bandarban, human hauler driver Minar Uddin (23) of Amirabad area in Lohagara upazlia in Chattorgam, Siraz Ahmed (73) of Konakhali union of Chakaria upazila in Cox's Bazar, Md Babul, 40, of the same union and Muhammad Shahid, 18 of Padua in Lohagara.

The injured were – Raihan Uddin, 18, of Chakaria and Ainul Islam, 35, of Bogura.

Officer-in-charge of Chiringa Highway police box, Inspector Md Anisur Rahman said "Police rushed to the spot immediately and started rescuing the vehicles from the ditches."

"We also rescued the passengers trapped inside the human hauler with the help of local fire service unit," he added.

Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chakaria Police Station said the human hauler carried 8 passengers.
