The International Crimes Tribunal has imposed a ban on the dissemination of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's "hate speech" in the media and on social platforms Facebook, YouTube and X.
The Tribunal also directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove the remarks from digital platforms.
A three-member bench, led by Tribunal Chairman Justice Mohammad Golam Mortuza, issued the order Thursday after hearing a petition filed by the state. The appropriate authorities of the Bangladesh government have been asked to implement the order as soon as possible.
Earlier, the prosecution made an application at the International Crimes Tribunal today, seeking a ban on hate speech, or any speech made by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Referring to some speeches and phone conversations of Hasina that have leaked on social and electronic media, the prosecution said the victims and witnesses were threatened with some of the words used there.
The prosecution made the application to stop the publication of such hate speeches that may be made in the future, and to remove those already on our social and electronic media.
The prosecution said the tribunal's order will be conveyed in writing to the appropriate authorities of international platforms, including Facebook, X and YouTube.
Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 in the face of student and public protests and fled the country. She is wanted for charges related to genocide and crimes against humanity and has been making provocative statements while living in exile in India.
