Rooppur to Begin Power Production Next Year: Russian Ambassador

Russia’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander V. Mantytskiy, has informed Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus about the progress of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. He mentioned that they expect to begin electricity production at the plant next year. The project is primarily being implemented with Russian financing and technical or expert support.

 

On Wednesday, October 9, Ambassador Alexander V. Mantytskiy had a farewell meeting with Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the Chief Adviser’s office. During the meeting, the ambassador reflected on his eventful three-plus years of service in Bangladesh.


They discussed several topics, including Gazprom’s exploration activities in Bangladesh, the export of wheat and fertilizer from Russia, and the repayment of the Rooppur project loan.


The Chief Adviser praised Russia’s support in the power and energy sectors, as well as its role in supplying wheat and fertilizer to Bangladesh. He also mentioned that the interim government will resolve the issue of Rooppur project loan repayments. Additionally, he welcomed more Russian investment in Bangladesh.


Emphasizing the importance of working together, Dr. Yunus said, "We will work together."

 

Senior Secretary for SDG Affairs Lamia Morshed and Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Md. Abul Hasan Mridha were also present at the meeting.
