The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will hold a hearing on quota system for the freedom fighters’ children in government jobs today (July 4).
A full bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan is scheduled to hold the hearing.
In October 2018, in the face of a student movement, the government issued a circular cancelling the 10 per cent women quota, the 30 per cent freedom fighter quota and the 10 per cent district quota for government jobs.
On June 5, the High Court ruled that the circular issued on October 4, 2018, about canceling the quota of freedom fighters in the first and second class government jobs, was 'invalid'. Later, the state filed an appeal seeking suspension of the High Court's verdict.
Then, the state filed a petition to suspend a High Court decision reinstating the quota for freedom fighters.
