The Bangladesh Railway (BR) has made arrangements to operate special trains on different routes in the country to facilitate smooth travel for devotees of the Bishwa Ijtema, one of the largest Muslim congregations in the world.

BR Director General Md Quamrul Ahsan said this at a press conference held at Rail Bhaban in Dhaka.

The first phase of the three-day largest religious congregation in the country will begin on 2 February, while the second phase on 9 February on the bank of the Turag River at Tongi, on the outskirts of the capital.

All Dhaka-bound intercity, mail, and commuter trains will stop at Tongi station for three minutes from 1 February to 4 February, and 8 February to 11 February, the director general said.

On the days of Akheri Munajat (concluding prayers) on 4 February and 11 February, all trains (up and down) – except Subarna Express, Sonar Bangla Express, Cox’s Bazar Express, and Parjatak Express – will stop at Tongi station for three minutes, he said.

The intercity trains will also stop at the station on 5 February and 12 February to facilitate the return of the devotees.
