Poet Asad Chowdhury laid to rest

Ekushey Padak-winning poet Asad Chowdhury was laid to rest at Duffin Meadows Cemetery in Deckers Hill, Durham Regional Municipality, Ontario, Canada on Friday.

Asad Chowdhury died while undergoing treatment at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in Ontario in Canada on Thursday. He was 80.

Representatives of Bangladesh in Canada honoured Asad Chowdhury at 11:30am in Canada time on Friday, and the poet’s namaj-e-janaza was held at the Islamic Foundation of Toronto after jummah prayers, the poet’s son-in-law, Nadim Iqbal, posted on Facebook.

Born in 1943, poet Asad Chowdhury started his career as a lecturer of Bangla language and literature at Brahmanbaria College in 1973.

He served as the director at the Bangla Academy. He is a life member of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh.

Asad won numerous awards, including the Ekushey Padak and Bangla Academy literary award, for his works.

His notable works include Bitto Nai Besat Nai, Ekka Dokka, Joler Madhye Lekhajokha, Je Pare Paruk, Modhya Math Theke, Megher Julum Pakhir Julum, Nadio Bibastro Hoi, Premer Kabita, Garbo Amar Anek Kichur, Tan Bhalobasher Kabita, Batash Jemon Parichito, Brishtir Sangsare Ami Keu Noi, Satya Pherari and others.
