There will be no provision of half fare for students while travelling by metro rail in the capital, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) said on Tuesday.
“However, wounded freedom fighters can travel for free,” DMTCL Managing Director MAN Siddique told a press conference at Agargaon station.
He said, “Passengers will get a 10 per cent fare cut if they purchase MRT Pass Card. Besides, persons with disabilities will get a 15 per cent discount on every single trip by using the cards.”
Children under three feet can travel for free if they are accompanied by parents, Siddique said.
The DMTCL managing director said passengers will be able to get on the metro rail from all the stations between Uttara and Agargaon by March 26 next year while all the trains will ply the route as well.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, who was present at the press conference, talked about the inauguration programme of the metro rail.
The much-awaited first-ever elevated metro rail is ready for commercial operation as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to inaugurate the metro rail on December 28.
