Police on Monday arrested a student of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
The arrestee has been identified as Zahidur Rahman, 22, a second-year student of the university.
Kuet Security Officer Md Sadeque Hossain Pramanik filed the case against a total of two students on Monday afternoon.
He said: “Zahidul, along with two other students of Brac University and Gopalganj University have spread offensive and provocative anti-state statements through the Telegram app. When the other students came to know the matter, they captured Zahidul and seized his laptop.”
They also attacked Zahidul, and he had to be admitted in a hospital, he added.
In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khanjahan Ali police station Kamal Hossain Khan said Kuet Security Officer Md Sadeque Hossain Pramanik filed a case against two students for trying to create unrest in the university by publishing defamatory statements with digital devices.
Zahidul was arrested on Monday from Khulna Medical College Hospital where he was admitted, he added.
