Qatar is going to take more workers from Bangladesh in the field of nursing, hospitality, construction, service, and IT sectors.

Qatari Labour Minister Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Al Samikh Al Marri said this during his meetings with Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad on Sunday.

During the meeting, Marri expressed his satisfaction with the Bangladeshi expatriate workers in Qatar and appreciated their role in developing the economy of various countries in the Middle East. "The workers of Bangladesh are very hardworking and responsible," he said.

In future, foreign workers will be eligible to get all the benefits like domestic workers as the labour law of Qatar has been amended, he added.

If the employers violate labour rights, the Qatari government takes action against them.

He stressed sending skilled workers from Bangladesh in various fields suitable for Qatar's growing labour market.

In addition, a welfare fund has been created for workers working in Qatar. Payments are made from this fund if any employer is unable to pay dues, Marri said.

He also emphasized that the Bangladeshi workers staying in Qatar abide by the Qatari laws.

Hassan Al Obaidli, Assistant Undersecretary of Ministry of Labor of Qatar, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar Md Jasim Uddin, Director General of Manpower Employment and Training Bureau (BMET) Shahidul Alam and Additional Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Mallik Anwar Hossain, among, others were present in the meeting.
