The revised national identity card of a Bangladeshi woman states that her place of birth is Venezuela.
Shiuli Begum, a resident of Baralekha upazila of Moulvibazar, said she got the message to collect her NID card on Friday.
“I applied with all necessary documents. After downloading the NID card, I saw that while all my information was accurate, my birthplace was wrong,” she said.
Another individual said he applied for a revision of his NID card two months ago at the upazila election office.
He got the application approval message and downloaded the NID card on Friday afternoon and saw that his birthplace was also Venezuela.
Baralekha Upazila Election Officer SM Sadiqur Rahman said: “I have informed the Election Commission about this. Hopefully it will be resolved soon. However, I do not know the reason for this data failure.”
