A speeding truck knocked the victims down, leaving the parents and the sister dead on the spot, say police

A girl child was born during a road accident that left three of her family members including her parents dead on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Saturday.

The tragic accident occurred around 2:30pm near court building area in Trishal upazila, said Md Moinuddin, officer-in-charge of Trishal police station.

The deceased were identified as Jahangir Alam, 35, his wife Ratna Begum, 26, and their daughter Jannat Ara, 5, from Raymani village in the upazila.

According to locals, Jahangir Alam went to Trishal upazila headquarter with his daughter and eight-month pregnant wife for conducting a medical test on the woman.

While crossing the highway, a speeding Mymenshingh-bound truck knocked them down, leaving all three family members dead on the spot, said police.

“However, the baby girl was born before her mother died on the road. She was taken to Upazila Health Complex by locals,” the OC added.

OC Moinuddin further said that the child sustained minor injuries and is now being treated at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. “A case will be filed soon in this regard.”

Police seized the killer truck but the driver fled the scene.
