Chattogram depot fire: Another firefighter dies

A fire service member who sustained burn injuries in Sitakunda’s depot fire died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday.

With another firefighter’s death, the death toll from the massive fire and blasts at Chattogram BM Container Depot rose to 46.

Fireman Gausul Azam was brought to Dhaka with severe burn injuries and admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery of DMCH where he breathed his last around 3:00am, said Md Shahjahan Sikder, duty officer of fire service and civil defense headquarters media cell.

So far, 10 firefighters have died in the incident. It is said to be the ‘largest death figure’ the fire service has seen in a single incident.

On June 4, a fire and subsequent blasts at BM Container Depot at Sitakunda of Chattogram left over 200 people injured.
