The Centre for Policy Dialogue holds a post-budget press conference in Dhaka on Friday

The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) said amnesty to money launderers offered in the budget is totally unacceptable and goes against the honest taxpayers.

This facility may also encourage others who did not launder money yet.

CPD made the observations in its budget analysis at a hotel in Gulshan in Dhaka.

“We have seen that this facility was given many times for (resident) Bangladeshis. Now this has been offered for those who smuggled out money,” said Prof Mustafizur Rahman, distinguished fellow of CPD.

“This facility is unacceptable ethically, politically and economically,” said Prof Rahman.

He said they (launderers) breached laws by taking money out of the country illegally and now they have been given benefits to bring back the money.

Without mentioning the name of PK Halder, Prof Rahman said he can now take the chance of this amnesty.
