ASI stabbed by drug dealer in Rangpur dies

 An Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) of Rangpur's Haragach Police Station, who was stabbed by a drug dealer during a raid yesterday, has died while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) today.

The deceased was identified as Peyarul Islam (30) of Kurigram, reports our correspondent quoting police.

Haragach Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Shawkat Ali Sarkar, said, "Acting on a tip-off, a team from Haragach police station, led by ASI Peyarul, carried out a drive in Shahebganj village last night to arrest a drug trader named Polash."

"As Polash was being arrested by police, he managed to break free and stabbed Peyarul in the abdomen, critically injuring him," said the OC.

"Polash was later caught by police again with the help of locals," said the OC, adding that, "Peyarul was rushed to RMCH, where he underwent surgery. Later he died in the ICU at 11:15am today."
