Investors yet to get Tk 26cr from Crest Securities

About 3,000 investors are yet to get Tk 26 crore in claims on Crest Securities Limited, a brokerage house of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, after one year of the scam.

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission has asked the DSE to settle the investors’ claim as soon as possible.


A senior DSE official told that Crest Securities urged the bourse to give it one month for settling the amount.

He said that the claim amount was Tk 60 crore at the beginning but came down to Tk 26 crore after settlement of some claims.

The DSE has settled claims made by investors, which were small in amount, DSE officials said.

Now, there is claims worth around Tk 26 crore to be settled, they said.

In June 2020, owners of Crest Securities Limited went into hiding after embezzling the clients’ money.

Crest Securities managing director Md Shahid Ullah and his wife Nipa Sultana embezzled Tk 48 crore from several thousands of clients and then shut down their brokerage house before going into hiding, Dhaka Metropolitan Police detectives told in July 2020.

There was about Tk 100 crore in clients’ investments in the brokerage house and over 22,000 BO-account holders had their money in the brokerage house, it said.

The DSE had immediately suspended the trading operation of the brokerage house and froze all BO accounts of the investors.

On June 14, the DSE suspended operation of Banco Securities, a brokerage house of the DSE, for an alleged embezzlement of Tk 66 crore from the consolidated customer’s account.
