Passenger Welfare Association of Bangladesh on Monday urged the government to resume inter-district bus services for easing the suffering of holiday-makers on their way back to cities, including the capital, after celebrating the Eid-ul-Fitr.

In a statement, published on the day, the association secretary general Md Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury alleged that the passengers were paying higher fares and crowding other transports which was increasing the risks of coronavirus infection.

The statement said that in the ongoing restrictions on public movement and other activities the services of inter-district buses remained closed.

During the Eid-Ul-Fitr, thousands of people went to different districts crowding ferries, cars, auto rickshaws and goods laden vehicles like trucks and pickup vans, it also said.

They had to pay higher fare for these transports and during return journeys they faced the same problems, it continued.

In the statement Mozammel urged the authorities to resume inter-district bus services immediately to reduce the suffering of people and risks of virus infection.
