Indian prime minister Narendra Modi will be in Dhaka on an official bilateral visit on March 26, 2021.

New Delhi has confirmed the visit of Modi to Bangladesh for March 26, 2021, foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen told New Age on Sunday.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has invited the Indian PM to visit Bangladesh for participating in the launching of the joint commemoration of golden jubilee of the independence of Bangladesh and the establishment of bilateral relations between the two countries, officials said, adding that Modi has accepted the invitation.

‘The crowning glory of our joint commemoration would be your presence in Dhaka for the celebrations on March 26, 2021,’ Hasina said in her statement in the virtual summit with Modi on December 17.

The launching of the celebrations will coincide with the celebration of 100th birth centenary of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Modi was scheduled to visit Dhaka on March 17 to join in the birth centenary functions. The visit was, however, postponed amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

The March 26, 2021 summit will be the fifth bilateral meeting between the two prime ministers after the meetings in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

Modi’s next visit will be his second in Bangladesh as he was in Dhaka for the first time in 2015.
