Hasina, Modi discuss water sharing, trade, fighting Covid-19

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a virtual summit today with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi where they inaugurated three projects.

They also discussed the issues of river water sharing, cooperation to combat Covid-19 and trade imbalance during the virtual meeting that began at around 11:30am (local time).

The two premiers have inaugurated the Chilahati-Haldibari rail link, a pre-1965 connectivity line, Bangabandhu-Bapu digital exhibition, and launched commemorative stamp marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

"I feel honored to be invited to visit Bangladesh on the occasion of Mujib Barsha," Modi said during the summit.

PM Sheikh Hasina said, "I am happy to see the growing economic dependency between Bangladesh and India."

"A good number of Indian nationals are employed in the manufacturing sector of Bangladesh. On the others hand, India receives the highest number of tourist and medical patients from Bangladesh, "she added.

The primer added that Bangladesh hopes to have India's support in the country's economic progress.

The two countries signed seven memorandum of understanding (MoUs) today on cooperation in seven sectors, including trade, energy and agriculture.

The two premiers have discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation in the post-Covid-19 era.
