Two madrasha students have been arrested over the vandalisation of the sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia.

Police arrested the youths from a madrasa in Kushtia on Saturday night, a high official of the district police.
The miscreants were identified through CCTV footage, police said.

Police will disclose details of the arrest in a media briefing later in the day.

In the early hours of Saturday, miscreants vandalized Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s sculpture in Kushtia town amid an anti-sculpture protest by Islamist organisations.

The face and hands of the sculpture were vandalized by two people within a minute beginning at 2:16am on Saturday, shows the CCTV footage.

The vandalism of Bangabandhu’s sculpture in Kushtia sparked widespread criticism across the country.

Different political and social organisations, including Awami League and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, staged demonstrations, processions and human chains in protest against the incident.
