Five killed in Kushtia road accident

At least five people including a woman were killed and two others injured in a head on collision between a lorry and an ambulance in Bittipara Lakshmipur area under Islamic University police station in Kushtia on Tuesday.

Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, the police said.

IU police station officer-in-charge Mustafizur Rahman said that the accident took place on Kushtia-Khulna Highway at around 3:00pm when a Dhaka-bound speedy lorry collided with a Narail-bound ambulance, leaving five boarding in the ambulance dead on the spot.

On information, a team of IU police station went to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent those to Kushtia Sadar Hospital with the assistance of local people.

The police seized the lorry but its driver and his assistant managed to flee the scene, the OC added.
